  16. needed to complete the order form and print it if desired.  All
  17. information needed can be entered here including credit card infor-
  18. mation if paying by credit card.

  20.      After the form is completed you will be asked if you want to print
  21. the order form.  Press <P> to Print, <S> to StartOver or <Q> to quit.
  22. These options can also be selected by the Mouse user by placing the
  23. Mouse pointer on the option letter and tapping the LEFT Mouse button.

  25.      Select <P> to print and you'll be ready to get the full blown
  26. registered version of GolfClub and be able to maintain stats and
  27. compute the Handicap Index for as many as 500 Golfers, with 20,000 Game
  28. Records playing on 50 different Courses.

  33.      Selecting this option will display, on screen, the instructions
  34. for using the OnLine Help built into this version of GolfClub.

  36.      The entire GolfClub instruction manual is built into the OnLine
  37. Help procedure.  Use it by pressing <F1> at any of the "PullDown Box"
  38. options.

  40.      To get help at any "PullDown Box" option use the ArrowKeys () to
  41. HiLight the option then press <F1> to bring up the OnLine Help for the
  42. HiLighted option.

  59. and give information on how to best use GolfClub.

  61.      Each time there is a new release of GolfClub, the user should
  62. always read this file first.  It's easy to do now, as the reader is
  63. built right in and all the user need do is select "Changes" in the
  64. "PullDown Box" under the "File" option on the TopMenu Bar.  For
  65. this reason, the file GOLFLOG.HEP must ALWAYS be placed in the same
  66. directory as GOLFLOG.COM and must not be altered by the user.

  133.                          ADD GAME RECORD
  134.  
  135.     The shareware version allows a maximum of five (5) Game Records.
  136. When registered, GolfClub will allow 2,000 Game Records to be entered
  137. into the database.
  138.  
  139.     Select this option when you wish to add a new Game Record to the
  140. database.  If you have more than one Golfer in the database you will
  141. first be required to select the Golfer from a "PickList" by moving the
  142. Arrow Keys (UpArrow and DownArrow) causing the bar to HiLight the
  143. correct Golfer, then you press <Enter> to select that Golfer.  Next,
  144. if you have more than one Course Record in the database, you will be
  145. asked to select a Course from the "PickList" using the same method
  146. that you used when selecting the Golfer.  If you only have one Golfer
  147. and Course in the database, you will go directly to the screen where
  148. all the information needed by GolfClub will be entered.  You really
  149. should bring your score card home with you to be assured of entering
  150. the requested information correctly.
  151.  
  152.      (DATE)
  153.  
  154.     The 1st prompt will ask you for the date the game was played.  If
  155. you are entering the information on the same day that the game was
  156. played, just press <Enter> and the current date will be entered for you.
  157. If you need to enter a different date, you must enter the date using
  158. the date format you selected when setting up GolfClub for the 1st time.
  159. The two formats are "MM-DD-YYYY" or "DD-MM-YYYY" with "MM" being the
  160. month, "DD" being the day and "YYYY" being the year.  If the month is
  161. from Jan. - Sep (01 - 09) then you must enter a zero "0" as the first
  162. digit.  If the day is from the 1st - 9th (01 - 09) then you must also
  163. enter a zero "0" as the first digit here also.  Entering a Month larger
  164. than 12 or a Day larger than 31 will not be accepted.  If you attempt
  165. to enter a Month or Day smaller than 10 in the first space, it will
  166. automatically place a zero "0" there and jump to the second space.  The
  167. Year must be entered using all four digits as in 1994.
  168.  
  169.      (PARTNERS)
  170.  
  171.     The next prompt will ask you for the name(s) of your playing
  172. partners for the game being entered.  If you played alone, press
  173. <Enter> without typing anything here and this prompt will be skipped.
  174. When entering the names here, remember that this field is limited to
  175. 30 spaces so it might be best if you only enter the first names when
  176. entering more than 2 or 3 playing partners.
  177.  
  178.      (HOLES PLAYED)
  179.  
  180.     Here you enter the number of holes you played for this game. Only 2
  181. figures will be accepted here; either 9 or 18.  If you enter 9 then you
  182. will be asked if you played the front side (Holes 1-9) or the back side
  183. (holes 10-18).  If the game is a 9 hole game, GolfClub will automatically
  184. select the score box for the front 9 or the back 9 depending on the side
  185. you indicated.  If you entered 18, then GolfClub will display the score
  186. box for the entire 18 holes of the Course selected earlier.
  187.  
  188.      (SCORES)
  189.  
  190.     Note that for Golfers with an established Handicap Index, GolfClub
  191. will display their Handicap Index and the Course Handicap just to the
  192. upper right of the score box.
  193.  
  194.     The score box will show the Hole # and the Par for each hole on the
  195. course.  When entering scores here, you MUST NOT use the Arrow Keys
  196. (LeftArrow & RightArrow) to skip from box to box.  Simply enter the score
  197. for the hole then press the <Enter> Key to go to the next hole.  If you
  198. are a registered user of GolfClub AND you have an established Handicap
  199. Index AND you have indicated that you want to use the "Equitable Stroke
  200. Control" (ESC) rule, GolfClub will check each score as you enter it to see
  201. that it fits within the range of the ESC rule.  If it's greater than the
  202. limit allowed, GolfClub will advise you and adjust the score accordingly.
  203. The maximum score for any hole is 25.  The minimum score for any hole
  204. is 1.  If you wish to stop before completing the Game Record, you may
  205. press the <F10> Key then press the <Enter> Key and you will be returned
  206. to the Main Menu.  The record will not be saved if you use this means to
  207. exit early.
  208.  
  209.     After entering the scores for the first 9 holes, the 9 hole total
  210. score will be posted.  If it's under the minimum score allowed by the
  211. U.S.G.A. or over the maximum score allowed by the U.S.G.A. GolfClub will
  212. advise you and adjust the score accordingly.  The minimum score allowed
  213. for handicapping purposes is 29.  The maximum score allowed depends on
  214. the Golfer's age and sex.  GolfClub knows the age and sex of each Golfer
  215. along with the U.S.G.A. limits and will make all the necessary adjust-
  216. ments as needed.
  217.  
  218.      (GREENS)
  219.  
  220.     Greens hit in regulation are based on each hole as follows:
  221.  
  222.            Hole Par         Strokes to reach Green
  223.            --------         ----------------------
  224.            Par 3 ........... 1 (Hit from Tee Box)
  225.            Par 4 ........... 2 (Hit on 2rd shot)
  226.            Par 5 ........... 3 (Hit on 3rd shot)

  228. TIP - When entering the score for each hole during the game, if you hit
  229. the green in regulation or less, put a "G" in the score box on the score
  230. card while playing.  If you did not hit that green in regulation, put a
  231. "GX" in the box.
  232.  
  233. NOTE - Hitting greens on Par 4 holes on the first shot and Par 5 holes on
  234. the second shot are still considered hitting the green in regulation.
  235.  
  236.      (TOTAL PUTTS)
  237.  
  238.     Enter the total number of Putts required to complete the game. This
  239. figure will be used when computing a Golfer's Putting average.
  240.  
  241. TIP - When entering the score while playing, enter the number of putts
  242. for each hole by placing "P1", "P2", etc. in the box for each score.
  243.  
  244.      (FAIRWAYS HIT)
  245.  
  246.     Hitting a fairway in regulation means that your ball lands IN the
  247. Fairway on the FIRST shot off the Tee.  Par 3 holes are NOT included in
  248. Fairways hit.  If you miss the Green on a par 3 hole and your ball lands
  249. in the Fairway, it's considered a Green missed and NOT a Fairway hit.
  250.  
  251.     Looking at the percent of Fairways hit at the Summary Screen will
  252. give a good indication of how accurate a Golfer is with the Driver.
  253.  
  254. TIP - When entering the score for each hole while still on the Course,
  255. place an "F" in the score box when you hit a Fairway and "FX" in the box
  256. when a Fairway is missed.
  257.  
  258.      (SAND SAVES)
  259.  
  260.     Sand Saves Attempted means the number of times you were in a green
  261. side sand trap.  Sand traps alongside Fairways (also called "Fairway
  262. bunkers") are NOT to be used when entering the number of sand saves
  263. attempted.  If you attempted no sand saves, press <Enter> here without
  264. typing a number and you will be moved to the next prompt.
  265.  
  266.     Sand Saves Made are the number of times you save Par after being in
  267. a green side sand trap.  If you do not make Par on the hole where you
  268. were in a green side sand trap, then do not enter anything.  You may
  269. skip this prompt by pressing <Enter> without entering a number.
  270.  
  271. TIP - While on the Course, if you make a valid sand save, place "S" in
  272. the score box for that hole.  If you fail to save Par from a green side
  273. sand trap, place "SX" in the score box.
  274.  
  275.     Looking at the percent of Sand Saves attempted/made at the Summary
  276. Screen will give a Golfer an indication of how well he/she uses sand
  277. wedges and whether or not this would be a part of his/her game the Golfer
  278. needs to work on.
  279.  
  280.      (SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
  281.  
  282.     After completing all the above information, you will be asked to
  283. <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.  Select one
  284. of these options and press the appropriate letter on your keyboard.
  285. Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the database
  286. and will allow it to be called up for review at any time along with all
  287. information recorded being included in the Summary for the Golfer.

  292.                     ADD PLAYER RECORD
  293.  
  294.     The shareware version allows only five (5) Golfer Records.  When
  295. registered, GolfClub will allow up to 5,000 different Golfers to
  296. be added to the database.
  297.  
  298.     Information entered here is used by GolfClub when doing Handicaps,
  299. minimum and maximum scores, etc.  It can be used also for keeping up
  300. with a player's age, address, phone number, etc.  At least one (1)
  301. Golfer Record must be saved in the database before a Game Record can
  302. be added.
  303.  
  304.      (FIRST and LAST NAME)
  305.  
  306.     Enter the FIRST name of the Golfer and press <Enter> to move to
  307. the prompt for the LAST name.  DO NOT enter BOTH the first and last
  308. name at either of these prompts as GolfClub does some sorting based on
  309. the last name and it needs to know how to recognize it as being a
  310. legitimate last name or first name.
  311.  
  312.      (SEX)
  313.  
  314.     GolfClub needs to know the sex of each Golfer so proper handicap
  315. figures can be established.  Also, the U.S.G.A. has established minimum
  316. and maximum allowable scores based on both sex and age.  You will be re-
  317. quired to enter either "M" or "F" at this prompt.  It doesn't matter if
  318. you type it lower case or upper case ("m" or "F"), GolfClub will know the
  319. difference and adjust accordingly.
  320.  
  321.      (AGE)
  322.  
  323.     GolfClub needs to know the age of each Golfer so proper handicap
  324. figures can be established.  Also, the U.S.G.A. has established minimum
  325. and maximum allowable scores based on both sex and age.  You will be re-
  326. quired to enter an age here that is over 4 and under 100.
  327.  
  328.      (ADDRESS)
  329.  
  330.     Enter here the address (street or P.O. box) of the Golfer.  Do not
  331. exceed the field length indicated by the dark spaces or you will be re-
  332. quired to complete the prompt again.
  333.  
  334.      (CITY) (STATE) (ZIP CODE)
  335.  
  336.     Enter here the city where the Golfer resides, the two letter postal
  337. code for the state and the ZIP code.
  338.  
  339.      (HOME PHONE and WORK PHONE)
  340.  
  341.     Enter at these two prompts first the home telephone of the Golfer
  342. then the work or office phone.  Either of these numbers could also be a
  343. car phone if desired.
  344.  
  345.      (USGA INDEX)
  346.  
  347.     If the Golfer already has an established Handicap Index it should
  348. be entered at this prompt.  If the Golfer does not have an established
  349. Handicap Index or it is not known, enter a zero "0" and press <Enter>
  350.  
  351.      (DIFFERENTIAL)
  352.  
  353.     If the Golfer has an established Handicap Index he/she will also
  354. have a Differential.  If it is known, enter it here at this prompt.
  355.  
  356.      (SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
  357.  
  358.     After completing all the above information, you will be asked if
  359. you want to <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.
  360. Select one of these options and press the appropriate letter on your
  361. keyboard.  Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the
  362. database and will allow it to be called up when adding a new Game Record.
  363. Mouse users may place the Mouse pointer directly on the letter inside
  364. the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button.

  369.                          ADD COURSE RECORD
  370.  
  371.     The shareware version allows only one (1) Course Record.  When
  372. GolfClub is registered, as many as 5,000 Course Records can be
  373. entered into the database.

  375.     After completing this requirement for a Course, you will not be
  376. required to enter it again.  A Course Record is saved in the database
  377. and is available each time a new Game Record is entered or the Course
  378. Record is selected for editing or display.  You MUST have at least one
  379. Course Record saved in the database before a Game Record can be entered.
  380.  
  381.      (COURSE NAME)
  382.  
  383.     Enter here the name of the Course or Club.  This field is limited
  384. to 20 characters so abbreviations may be necessary such as "Riverlawn
  385. CC" rather than "Riverlawn Country Club."
  386.  
  387.      (CITY and STATE)
  388.  
  389.     Enter here the name of the city/town where the course is located.
  390. Press <Enter> after entering the city and type the standard 2 letter
  391. Postal abbreviation for the state.
  392.  
  393.      (COURSE TYPE)
  394.  
  395.     If your course is one where you have only 9 holes and DO NOT have
  396. provisions for playing it as an 18 hole course (such as 2 Tee boxes for
  397. each hole) then press "Y" here.  If your course is an 18 hole course (or
  398. a 9 hole course with 2 Tee boxes for each hole) press "N" here.
  399.  
  400.      (COURSE PAR)
  401.  
  402.     You will next be asked to enter the Par for the front 9 (1-9)
  403. then the Par for the back 9 (10-18).  After doing this GolfClub will
  404. display the Course Par.  If your course is a true 9 hole course, you
  405. must enter the Par figure at the required prompt.
  406.  
  407.      (HOLE PARS)
  408.  
  409.     Next you will be required to enter the Par value for each hole on
  410. the course.  After completing this requirement, GolfClub will check to
  411. be sure the front side Par value and the back side Par value matches
  412. the total of the individual holes just entered. If the figures do not
  413. match, GolfClub will display a message box advising you which of the
  414. sides do not match the Par value indicated at the top of the screen.
  415.  
  416. NOTE - GolfClub does not accept Hole Par values of less than 3 or more
  417. than 5.  Acceptable Par values are 3, 4, and 5.
  418.  
  419.      (SLOPE and RATING)
  420.  
  421.     If your course is an approved U.S.G.A. course, it will have both a
  422. "Slope" and "Rating" assigned to it.  The Course Pro/Manager should be
  423. able to make both of these figures available to you.  Many courses have
  424. this information printed on the scorecard.  If you have these figures
  425. then enter them at the next 2 prompts.  The Slope is entered first.
  426. Pressing <Enter> here without typing a number will cause GolfClub to
  427. assign a default value of 135 as the Slope for the course.  The next
  428. prompt will ask for the Rating of the course.  Either enter the known
  429. rating of the Course or press <Enter> for the default value of 70.5
  430.  
  431.     (CLUB PRO and TELEPHONE)
  432.  
  433.     The last 2 prompts ask you for the name of the club Pro/Manager and
  434. the telephone number.  If this information is not known, press <Enter>
  435. to skip either or both of these prompts.
  436.  
  437. TIP - Having the telephone number entered here will be handy in case
  438. you forget it and need to call for an advance "Tee time."
  439.  
  440.      (SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
  441.  
  442.     After completing all the above information, you will be asked if
  443. you want to <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.
  444. Select one of these options and press the appropriate letter on your
  445. keyboard. Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the
  446. database and allow it to be called up when adding a new Game Record.
  447. The Mouse user can place the Mouse pointer directly on the letter
  448. inside the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button.

  453.     You first select a Golfer from the "PickList" presented then,
  454. from a second "PickList", select the record of choice and either tap
  455. the LEFT Mouse button or press <Enter>.  GolfClub will display the
  456. selected Game Record in two (2) screens.  The first screen will show
  457. a breakdown of all the stats for that particular game.  After viewing
  458. this screen, press any key to move on to the next screen.  The second
  459. screen will show the Golfer's score card for the selected game.

  461.     At the bottom of this screen you will be offered the opportunity
  462. to print both the Game Record and the score card.  Select <Y> to print
  463. or <N> to quit back to the Menu.  The Mouse user can place the Mouse
  464. pointer directly on the letter inside the "< >" and tap the LEFT
  465. Mouse button.

  467.     NOTE:  The "print" option is available only in the registered
  468.            version.

  473.     After selecting the Golfer whose Summary you wish to review from
  474. the "PickList", you will be shown a screen listing 41 different items
  475. about ALL the games this Golfer has recorded in the database.  You may
  476. find this screen the most interesting of all as it tells you about the
  477. selected Golfer's history of all games recorded.  It does not however,
  478. tell you how to improve the Golfer's golf game.
  479.  
  480.     At the bottom of this screen, you will be offered the opportunity
  481. to print the Summary.  Select <Y> to print or <N> to quit back to the
  482. Menu.  The Mouse user can place the Mouse pointer directly on the
  483. letter inside the "< >" and tap the LEFT Mouse button.

  485.     NOTE:  The "print" option is available only in the registered
  486.            version.

  491.     This option will ask you to select the Golfer from a "PickList"
  492. then display general information found in the Golfer's record.  Here's
  493. where you can find the Golfer's phone number, age, sex, number of games
  494. played, Handicap Index, etc.

  496. TIP - Having this information available can make it easy to get phone
  497. numbers when calling friends to get up a game on short notice.

  502.     You will be presented a "PickList" if more than one Course Record
  503. is in the database.  Select the course of choice and you will be shown
  504. everything you entered when you first placed the Course record in the
  505. database.  The record will reflect any changes you may have made if
  506. the Course Record has been edited.

  510.                            EDIT GAME RECORD
  511.  
  512. *><*   This option requires GolfClub v1.0b to be registered before
  513.        it can be used.
  514.  
  515.     Select the Golfer whose game you wish to edit from the "PickList."
  516. Next select the individual Game Record from the "PickList" using the
  517. Mouse or ArrowKeys ().
  518.  
  519.     A screen will appear showing all scores and other amounts as
  520. originally saved when the game was first recorded.  The course name
  521. and the Golfers Course Handicap can not be changed.  If these items
  522. need to be changed, you must delete that Record and enter it again.
  523. The first item available for change is the date the game was played.
  524. The blinking cursor will appear in this box.  If the date is correct
  525. press <Enter> without making any change to go to the next available
  526. block.  When changing the date, be sure to stick with your selected
  527. date format.  When a block is changed, the new figures will appear
  528. in bright yellow on a dark background.
  529.  
  530.     You MUST NOT use the Arrow Keys to move the blinking cursor.  If
  531. you do not wish to change the item where the cursor is located then
  532. press the <Enter> Key to go to the next item until you reach the item
  533. you wish to change.  After you have made the change, continue pressing
  534. the <Enter> Key until you reach the end.  You can then press <S> to
  535. save the changes or <Q> to quit without saving the changes.  If you're
  536. using a Mouse then place the Mouse pointer on or near the letter (S,Q)
  537. of choice and tap the LEFT Mouse button.

  539. NOTE -  If you wish to change an amount or score in any of the boxes,
  540. you must change the ENTIRE amount/score by typing over ALL the numbers
  541. in that block.

  546.     Select the Golfer from the "PickList" presented and you will
  547. be able to change anything in the Golfer's record except the name
  548. of the Golfer.
  549.  
  550.     If you need to change the name of a Golfer, you must delete the
  551. Golfer Record then create a new one using the "Add Golfer" option.

  553. TIP - Use this to change the age of a Golfer, his/her address, phone
  554. numbers, age, etc.  You should always keep up with a Golfers age so
  555. GolfClub can have the correct information when doing handicaps, etc.

  560.     Select the desired Course from the "PickList" and you will be
  561. able to change anything about a Course except its name.
  562.  
  563.     If you need to change the name of a Course you must delete the
  564. Course Record and create a new one using the "Add Course" option.

  744. display various items showing the Golfer, Course, Course Rating and Slope,

  746. and the Golfer's new Handicap Index.

  1002. 1.. Using the Mouse:  Using the Mouse is easy when in GolfClub.  Most
  1003.     all standard Mouse procedures apply.  To select an option at any
  1004.     of the TopMenu Bar selections just move the Mouse pointer to the
  1005.     selection desired and tap the LEFT Mouse button. This will cause
  1006.     a "PullDown Box" to appear.  To select an option from one of the
  1007.     "PullDown Boxes", move the pointer to the desired option and tap
  1008.     the LEFT Mouse button.  The Mouse pointer will appear as a small
  1009.     vertical rectangle "█".    At times  you must actually  move the
  1010.     Mouse slightly to see where the  Mouse pointer is located  as it
  1011.     may be hidden or unseen in the display screen.

  1013. 2.. Users without a Mouse:  Users without a Mouse should find using
  1014.     GolfClub as easy as always.  Use the ArrowKeys () to move about
  1015.     Menu selections and when you get the <OK> or <CANCEL> display in
  1016.     an on-screen box, use the <Tab> Key to jump from one to the other.
  1017.     When at the desired option, press <Enter> and to activate the Top
  1018.     Menu bar, press the <Alt> Key and use the LeftArrow/RightArrow

  1022. 3.. Deleting Records:  When deleting Game Records, if there's 2 or more
  1023.     players in the database, the user must first select the Golfer
  1024.     whose Game Record is to be deleted.  After selecting the Golfer
  1025.     from the "PickList" (HiLight the name and press <Enter>), the
  1026.     user will be shown another "PickList" with all of the selected
  1027.     Golfer's games.  Move the HiLight bar to the game to be deleted
  1028.     and press <Enter> to remove the Game Record from the database.
  1029.     When deleting Golfer and Course Records, the user will only need
  1030.     to select the Golfer or Course and press <Enter>.  See Tip #4
